Blanchard covers a fast evolving industry of companies mining for lithium, rare earth minerals and aluminium as well as clean energy technology. She also has to be aware of what battery manufacturers and automakers are doing, while monitoring trends in environmental, social and governance investing and clean technology. Demand for lithium is climbing rapidly, fuelling the focus on the Upstream and lithium producers. “We are just at the beginning of a transition and revolution so I’m pretty excited to remain in that industry,” said Blanchard. Katai, who covers Broadlines and Food Retail, said, “What I like about this job is that no day is the same and every day brings new challenges”. In her four years at Deutsche Bank Research Katai has gradually expanded her coverage to include more types of retailers, including apparel, food and warehouse clubs. She covers Walmart, Target, Kroger, Dollar Tree and Costco among others. “One of the things I am learning is how to be much more nimble. Retail stocks move really fast. If you have an idea and high conviction, just go after it,” she said. To qualify for the list, analysts had to be 35 years old or younger, based in the US, work in sell-side equity research at a Wall Street firm, and stand out from peers through their work. Insider editors selected the finalists from nominations submitted by colleagues, bosses, and investors. Reporters then interviewed each analyst about their careers and the sectors they covered.
