Germany: Crowds return to Gamescom convention after COVID 24.08.2022

  • Germany and the world’s largest video games trade fair, Gamescom, opens this week in Cologne.
  • The vent has coincided with the almost annual appeal from German representatives of the gaming industry for government and politics to take it more seriously, and to invest more.
  • The first steps in this direction came at Gamescom in 2020, when then Transport Minister Andreas Scheuer (Germany’s transport portfolio also incorporates “digital affairs,” of which the video game industry is deemed a part) pledged a first package of spending to develop the games industry worth around €50 million (around $50 million).
