Leading MEPs seek broad consensus on regulatory sandboxes in AI Act

  • The lawmakers co-leading on the Artificial Intelligence (AI) regulation have circulated a new compromise that largely incorporates elements proposed by other political groups in the innovation part of the proposal.
  • The leading MEPs have listed a set of objectives for the sandboxes, which include fostering innovation, facilitating and accelerating access to AI to SMEs and start-ups, improving legal certainty by collaborating with authorities, and contributing to implementing the regulation and to the development of harmonized standards and common specifications.
  • The compromise would require the Commission to adopt the implementing acts that will define the procedures for application, selection and participation to the sandboxes within one year since the entry into force of the AI Act.
