ANKARA, September 19. /TASS/. The agreement between Moscow and Ankara on payment for 25% of gas supply in Russian rubles will enter into effect shortly, Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Fatih Donmez said Monday.
"Turkey will make 25% of payments for natural gas it receives from Russia in rubles. The corresponding agreement will enter into effect shortly. The fact that Turkey will buy gas from Russia with rubles will reduce expenses and the dependency [of the Turkish economy] on the US dollar," the Minister said, according to the Yeni Safak.
On September 16, Russian President Vladimir Putin 16 met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the sidelines of the SCO Summit, during which he announced the agreement on payment for 25% of Russian gas to Ankara in Russian national currency.
