  • Environmental organisations criticised the French government’s draft bill to accelerate the deployment of renewable energies, saying it risks threatening biodiversity and protected areas.
  • The bill, which is considered France’s roadmap to achieving its energy targets, has also been criticised for its vagueness regarding implementation, notably when it comes to permitting procedures for energy projects.
  • On solar energy, the draft prioritises solar panels for the coverage of outdoor car parks, which if implemented, would allow 7-11 gigawatts (GW) of solar energy to be deployed – a high proportion of the government’s 100 GW target for 2050.
