- The Netherlands will not continue to exploit the Groningen gas field because of the resulting earthquakes that impact those living in the area, Prime Minister Mark Rutte told journalists in Prague on Thursday.
- The giant Dutch gas field once produced more than 40 billion cubic metres (bcm) of gas yearly – equivalent to 10% of the EU’s consumption – but its production has now been capped due to earthquakes, EURACTIV reported.
- This included a cap on imported gas and a price cap on gas used in power production.
We won’t continue to use Groningen gas field, says Rutte
