  • Finnish households are buying up iodine tablets after the social and health ministry updated its guidelines on iodine use in case of radiation hazards on Tuesday likely prompted by Russia’s repeated threats to go nuclear.
  • In the updated guidelines based on WHO guidelines from 2017, the ministry recommends households with members aged 3-40, firstly stay inside, but also acquire iodine tablets as secondary precautions.
  • The updated guidelines also cite that children are the most at risk of developing thyroid cancer from radiation and that those over 40 should not take the tablets.
