UN slams Finland for neglecting children in Syrian refugee camp

  • Finland has neglected the protection of three Finnish children born to mothers who presumably assisted ISIS by not evacuating them from the Syrian al-Hol refugee camp, the UN’s Child Rights Committee said in a public verdict Wednesday.
  • Repatriating the 30 children born to Finnish women in Syria has turned out to be a long and complex process – partly due to the policy of local authorities that only allowed orphans to leave unless there were strong humanitarian reasons.
  • Save the Children organisation reported in the autumn of 2021 that there would be some 40,000 children in Syrian refugee camps.
