EU and Morocco sign green energy deal

  • The European Union and Morocco on Tuesday (18 October) signed a “green partnership” deal they hope will bolster cooperation on renewable energy.
  • The memorandum of understanding signed on Tuesday is set to boost cooperation on energy and the fight against climate change.
  • In 2009, Morocco adopted an energy strategy aimed at increasing the share of renewables in electricity production to over 52 percent of the country’s energy mix — up from around a fifth today.
