  • As of Sunday, four boats with almost 1,000 migrants on board were stationed off the Italian coast, but the government only allowed women and children to disembark while claiming EU laws are being breached and asking for redistribution assistance.
  • The German government called on Rome to help the people on the Humanity 1, while the Norwegian ambassador in Rome, Johan Vibe, emphasised that Oslo has “no responsibility under human rights conventions or the law of the sea for persons taken on board private Norwegian-flagged vessels in the Mediterranean”.
  • Already 252 migrants have landed in Italy from seven different landings, while the hotspot on the island of Lampedusa, off the coast of Sicily, accommodates 1,372 migrants despite having only 400 places.
