BRUSSELS, June 12 (TASS/) - The exit of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia from the Russian-Belarusian energy system should happen in an orderly fashion and without any risk to all participants, including Kaliningrad, Vice-President of the European Commission for the Energy Union Maros Sefcovic said.

“The Commission stands fully behind this project, while making sure it happens in an orderly fashion and without any risk to the Baltics, Russia, including Kaliningrad, as well as Belarus,” Sefcovic said in a statement, published on the European Commission’s website.

Sefcovic will pay a visit to Moscow on Thursday and meet with Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak to discuss this issue. He will also hold a bilateral meeting with Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov and a discussion with European business representatives.

The meeting will focus on several topics of strategic importance, such as “trilateral gas talks set to ensure the long-term continuation of gas flows from Russia to the EU via Ukraine as of 2020.” The Commission suggests convening the next trilateral meeting at ministerial level as soon as possible.

The European Commission wants Russia to provide guarantees of keeping the Ukrainian transit after the contract expires in December 2019. The Ukrainian budget receives up to 3 bln euro from the gas transit, according to the Commission’s assessments.
