The case study, 'Gender mainstreaming and climate resilience in Zambia's cashew sector', identifies ways to address the gender dimensions of adaptation and achieve outcomes that benefit women, men and their communities. It explores the gender mainstreaming approach of a large-scale agriculture development project, the Cashew Infrastructure Development Project (CIDP) in Western Province, Zambia. Based on good practices carried out by the CIDP, including participatory stakeholder consultations and partnerships with farmer cooperatives, recommendations for policymakers indicate a way forward to enhance the promotion of gender equality in the context of adaptation to climate change impacts on agriculture.
The study aimed to answer the questions: which gender issues are most critical in agricultural development in the context of climate change in Zambia and what practices can be promoted in order to contribute to gender-responsive change?
