MOSCOW, April 7. /TASS/. Sales of new cars in Russia rose by 22.7% year-on-year in March 2020 and totaled 160,600, according to analytical agency Autostat.
"According to data of Autostat analytical agency, residents of our country became owners of 160,600 new cars as of March 2020 end. This is 22.7% above the result a year ago (130,900)," the report said.
Avtovaz traditionally holds leadership on the Russian car market, with sales growing by 6.6% to 31,600 in March. Kia is second with 23,600, up 35%. Hyundai is third with sales growth by 29.3% to 18,000 cars. They are followed by Renault with 13,100 cars sold in March (+10.2%) and Volkswagen - 11,600 cars (+39.5%).
"The Russian new cars market is also with the upside in the first quarter of this year. Its volume over that period totaled 375,600 units, which is 16.3% higher than in January - March 2019," experts said.
Data were prepared on the basis of registrations with the state traffic inspectorate, the agency noted.
