Hyundai, Kia to Boost Electric-Car Production at Home

  • Hyundai and affiliate Kia will invest W21 trillion by 2030 to boost electric vehicle production in Korea to 1.44 million a year (US$1=W1,266).
  • Kia makes EVs at only four out of eight factories here — the EV6 in Hwaseong and the Soul EV and Bongo EV in Gwangju.
  • Construction will start in the first half of next year, with production scheduled to begin in the second half of 2025 with an annual output capacity of 100,000 cars that will be expanded to 150,000.
