  • European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen sent a letter to EU capitals on Wednesday (5 October), seen by EURACTIV, explaining further measures it plans to tackle the energy crisis, including price caps on gas and further funding under REPowerEU.
  • EU gas storage capacity is currently at 90% and its reliance on Russian gas, which is adding to the distortion of the market, is at 7.5% but there are still concerns about energy scarcity this winter.
  • The EU will also continue working on the structural reform of the electricity market and, by the end of the year, plans to present its ideas for this to EU countries and the European Parliament.
