- Russian President Vladimir Putin told his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on Thursday (13 October) that Turkey was the most reliable route to deliver gas to the European Union and proposed to build what he called a supply hub there.
- Gazprom began shipping gas via TurkStream, including to Bulgaria and North Macedonia, on 1 January 2020, replacing supplies via the Trans-Balkan pipeline through Ukraine and Romania.
- Russia stopped gas supplies to Bulgaria, but the latter continues to transit Russian gas to Serbia, North Macedonia and Hungary.
