  • Europe faces environmental challenges “of unprecedented scale and urgency,” according to a comprehensive overview of air, land and water ecosystems published on Wednesday (4 December) by the European Environment Agency.
  • But these are “not nearly enough to meet our long-term goals,” he warned, calling for “breakthrough investments” in things like electric vehicles rather than “costly marginal efficiency gains” in existing technologies which are “dead-end streets”.
  • First among those is a proposal to carve into law Europe’s objective of reaching climate neutrality by 2050.
