Berlin slashes value added tax on natural gas despite supply woes

  • On Monday, the German government announced the introduction of its gas levy that will go towards propping up Uniper.
  • Initially, the German government had sought to exclude the extra levy from VAT, something ruled out by EU rules that may have been familiar to Scholz, a former finance minister, and Christian Lindner.
