  • Oil and gas giant BP has said it will create a number of technology companies in an effort to tackle climate change, amid increasing pressure to cut back its emissions and damaging drilling.
  • Yet the campaign group has found that the oil and gas industry plans to spend $4.9tn over the next decade on exploration and extraction in new fields.
  • The company was creating a “potentially misleading impression”, the lawyers said, that it was becoming a more renewable business, when in actual fact the overwhelming majority of BP’s investment still went towards its oil and gas operations.
