Europe’s airports risk watery grave, as ‘cost of inaction’ debate heats up

  • More than 20 of Europe’s airports could be underwater by the end of the century if current climate trends continue.
  • Climate modellers also struggle to put an accurate figure on the true cost of floods, heatwaves, droughts, air pollution and many more known and unknown factors.
  • EURACTIV understands that climate damage estimates provided by the EU’s Joint Research Centre will be included in this round of modelling, although it is unclear how prominently they will feature in the exercise.
