  • The European Commission convened with Polish officials on Tuesday to attempt to win support for a tougher European Union climate change target, after the country requested more analysis of the goal.
  • The current goal, a 40% cut by 2030, would fail to put the EU on track to achieve “net zero” emissions by 2050.
  • Poland’s climate and environment minister, Michal Kurtyka, on Tuesday also called for an “in-depth analysis” of how the economic disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic will affect the 2030 climate plan.
