Norway shows EU energy crisis preparation failed

  • Recent plans by the Norwegian government to protect consumers at home by curbing electricity exports have been criticised by Nordic governments and grid operators.
  • The European Commission’s feedback on the Finnish and Swedish plans also does not mention Norway even though the European executive urged both Finland and Sweden to revise their plans in light of the war in Ukraine.
  • Even though Norway is not a member of the European Union, it participates in and implements the rules of the EU single market through the European Economic Area (EEA) agreement.
