- Indonesia is only the European Union’s fifth-largest trading partner out of the 10 Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) states.
- The WTO is also expected to announce its decision by the end of the year over Indonesia’s case against the EU’s decision to phase out imports of palm oil imports by 2030.
- With Indonesia taking over as ASEAN chair next year, there is even more impetus on Brussels to cooperate if it wants to continue building good ties in the region.
