  • As part of its REPowerEU plan presented in May, the European Commission set out a target to ramp up domestic production of biomethane to 35 billion cubic meters (bcm) by 2030, up from around 3 bcm today.
  • A new category of social bonus, whereby low-income working households can get a 40% discount on electricity bills, was launched by the government on Tuesday as part of a new package of measures to benefit some 1.5 million vulnerable citizens.
  • The European Commission on Tuesday (18 October) adopted an action plan to accelerate the digitalisation of the energy sector with the aim of boosting energy efficiency and facilitating the integration of renewables in the electricity grid.
