  • Members of the European Parliament’s agriculture committee (AGRI) have called for concerted efforts to support mental health for EU farmers as pressures mount on the already strained sector.
  • The report, commissioned by the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU-OSHA), ranks psychological well-being as a top risk for farmers, something it attributes to a combination of stress factors, including climate change, bureaucracy, and isolation.
  • Pointing out that 80% of the public assistance from the EU’s Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) goes to 20% of farmers, Häusling called for a redistribution of funds to ease the pressure on smaller farmers.
