Ukraine’s coronavirus cases grow by 638 in 24 hours

KIEV, July 14. /TASS/. Ukrainian doctors recorded another 638 COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, Minister of Health Maxim Stepanov told reporters at a press briefing on Tuesday.

"Another 638 coronavirus cases were recorded in Ukraine in the past 24 hours. Those infected include 26 children and 74 medical workers," he said. The number of recoveries exceeded the number of infections, with 651 patients recovering in the past 24 hours. Stepanov added that 157 patients had been taken to hospitals, 14 people died.

According to the minister, a total of 54,771 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Ukraine since the beginning of the pandemic, 27,154 patients have recovered, 1,412 people have died. Ukrainian specialists conducted 22,846 coronavirus tests in the past 24 hours, including 13,394 antibody tests.

In late December 2019, Chinese officials notified the World Health Organization (WHO) about the outbreak of a previously unknown pneumonia in the city of Wuhan, in central China. Since then, cases of the novel coronavirus - named COVID-19 by the WHO - have been reported in every corner of the globe, including Russia. On March 11, 2020, the WHO declared the coronavirus outbreak a pandemic.
