Coronavirus cases rise by 121 in Belarus, four patients die

MINSK, August 2. /TASS/. The number of novel coronavirus cases in Belarus rose by 121 in the past day reaching 68,067, and four people died, the republic's Health Ministry said on its Telegram channel.

"Some 68,067 people tested positive for COVID-19. During the entire period of the infection spread in the country 567 patients diagnosed with the coronavirus infection died, who had a number of chronic diseases," the ministry said.

The number of recovered COVID-19 patients grew in the past day by 210 to 62,896. More than 1.3 mln tests for the novel coronavirus infection were carried out in the country, including 10,153 in the past day.

Belarusian authorities chose not to introduce lockdown due to the coronavirus and public events continue taking place in the country and the presidential election campaign is underway. The Belarusian Health Ministry has issued recommendations to prevent the infection from spreading during the August 9 presidential election. Those infected will vote either in hospitals or at home. According to the ministry, more than 30% of all COVID-19 cases were detected in Minsk.
