Ukraine reports over 1,000 COVID-19 cases for fifth day in a row

KIEV, August 2. /TASS/. Doctors in Ukraine recorded over 1,000 new COVID-19 cases in the past day, the National Security and Defense Council reported on Sunday.

"Some 1,112 cases were registered, 16 people died and 235 others recovered," the statement said.

Over the past five days the number of daily cases of the novel coronavirus infection in Ukraine exceeded 1,000. On Saturday, Ukraine's authorities reported 1,172 new cases.

To date, 72,168 cases of the coronavirus infection have been recorded in Ukraine since the start of the pandemic, 1,725 patients have died and another 39,543 have recovered. Currently, 30,900 people diagnosed with COVID-19 are ill. This is 861 patients more or 2.8% more compared with the day earlier.

A record high growth in COVID-19 cases in Ukraine was registered on June 30 when the Health Ministry confirmed 1,197 new cases.

Ukraine confirmed its first COVID-19 case on March 3. The government imposed a lockdown on March 17. Since May 22 until July 31, the government allowed local authorities to decide themselves on whether to extend or lift restrictions. Since August 1, new rules of adaptive quarantine were introduced in Ukraine. The country's regions were divided into four zones, where various restrictions were imposed depending on the epidemiological situation.
