Uzbekistan’s coronavirus cases surpass 25,000

TASHKENT, August 2. /TASS/. Doctors registered 736 new coronavirus cases in the past day in Uzbekistan, taking the total caseload in the Central Asian republic to 25,040, the Health Ministry said on Sunday.

According to the report, the number of recoveries grew by 835, reaching 15,299 (61% of the total number of infections). In the past day, another six people diagnosed with COVID-19 died from cardiovascular collapse and pulmonary failure. The total death toll from complications caused by the novel coronavirus hit 149.

To date, 9,592 patients are staying in hospitals, with 592 of them in serious condition and 185 others in critical condition. According to the Health Ministry, all new cases of infection were recorded among citizens, who had not left the republic's territory. They passed tests for the coronavirus after complaining about a rise in temperature and contacts with infected persons.

On July 26, the country's authorities extended lockdown measures until August 15. In particular, public events are banned, companies were told to shift personnel to remote work, public transport restrictions are in effect, people above 65 are banned from visiting public places.
