Number of COVID-19 infections in France surpasses 1 mln, authorities say

PARIS, October 23. /TASS/. The number of people with the detected novel coronavirus infection has surpassed the 1 mln threshold during the epidemic in France, rising to 1,041,975, the Sante Publique France national monitoring agency of the country's Health Ministry reported on Friday.

According to its data, over the 24 hours since Thursday evening, 42,032 new infections were confirmed in the country. This is a new record high for France.

Over the past seven days, 11,032 people were hospitalized in the country, 1,714 of them admitted to the intensive care units. Some 34,508 patients died during the pandemic, 23,382 of them at hospitals. Over the past 24 hours, 184 patients with a serious form of the disease died. The overall indicator of positive tests for the presence of the coronavirus nationwide is at the mark of 15.1%.

There are 2,073 hotspots of the disease in the country, 477 of them being at nursery homes. Over the past 24 hours, 184 hotspots were detected. In 91 French departments out of 101 there is a "heightened level of risk" of getting infected with the novel coronavirus.
