Armenia documents less than 100 COVID-19 cases over 24 hours

YEREVAN, January 18. /TASS/. The number of the coronavirus infections in Armenia has increased over the past 24 hours by 90, bringing the total to 164,676, the press service of Armenia's Healthcare Ministry reported on Monday.

"Over the past 24 hours, 90 cases of COVID-19 have been detected, 292 patients have recovered. The total number of recoveries is 153,064, [with] 164,676 infections," the statement said.

A day earlier, 351 cases of the infection were reported. Over the past 24 hours, 6 coronavirus patients died with the total of 2,998 fatalities since the beginning of the pandemic in the country.

In all, 624,153 tests for the presence of the coronavirus have been conducted in Armenia with approximately 21% of population tested. Some 842 tests have been conducted over the past 24 hours, 10.6% of the results were positive. Since the beginning of the pandemic the infection has been detected in approximately 5.7% residents of the republic with the population of 2.9 mln

A quarantine has been in effect across the entire republic since September 11, 2020 which concluded on January 11. Even though the country's Ministry of Economy was against the extension of restrictions, the quarantine was extended for six months after the Healthcare Ministry's proposal.
