KIEV, January 18. /TASS/. Ukrainian medics have recorded 3,034 coronavirus cases over the past 24 hours which is almost half as many cases as the day before when 5,990 infections were detected, Ukraine's Health Minister Maxim Stepanov reported on Monday.
"3,034 new cases <...> of COVID-19 were recorded in Ukraine as of January 18, 2021. For instance, 107 children and 87 healthcare workers got sick," he wrote on Facebook.
The minister added that over the past 24 hours, 1,304 patients were hospitalized, 5,236 patients have recovered, 67 patients died. The highest number of new cases of the infection was detected in Kiev (301), the Zaporozhye (266), Kiev (240), Nikolaev (323) and Dnepropetrovsk (220) Regions.
The total number of registered cases of the coronavirus in Ukraine during the entire pandemic has reached 1,163,716 with 871,196 recoveries and 20,869 fatalities. Over the past 24 hours in Ukraine, 10,401 PCR tests for the presence of the coronavirus have been conducted. During the pandemic in the country, 5,964,388 PCR tests were made. The scope of testing amounts to 14.2% of Ukraine's population.
A strict quarantine due to the coronavirus is in effect in Ukraine. Additional restrictions have been introduced from January 8 through January 25. An emergency regime is effective until February 28. At the end of last year, Ukrainian authorities reported of concluding an agreement to obtain over 1.9 mln doses of a vaccine against the coronavirus by Chinese Sinovac Biotech. Ukraine hopes to receive the first 700,000 doses in February. Ukraine also expects deliveries of vaccines against the coronavirus through the COVAX program. During the first phase Kiev will receive 1.2 mln doses with the total of 8 mln doses, however, the authorities are conducting talks on increasing the total to 16 mln.
