MINSK, January 21. /TASS/. As many as 1,804 coronavirus cases were recorded in Belarus in the past 24 hours, the Health Ministry said in a statement on Telegram on Thursday.
"As many as 1,804 new COVID-19 patients were identified in the past day and 2,378 patients recovered," the statement reads.
The overall number of coronavirus cases in the country has reached 232,298, recoveries have hit 216,744 and the death toll has climbed to 1,619.
A total of 4,311,968 coronavirus tests have been conducted in the country so far.
The Belarusian government chose not to introduce lockdown after the pandemic had begun. The authorities recently took additional measures to handle the second coronavirus wave. On October 1, the vaccination of volunteers with Russia's Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine began in Belarus as part of post-registration trials. Belarus became the second country to register the vaccine after Russia.
The Belarusian Health Ministry said in late December that the first shipment of the vaccine had been delivered to the country for mass vaccination. According to the ministry, there are plans to vaccinate 1.2 mln people by the end of the spring. The joint production of the Sputnik V vaccine is expected to begin in Belarus in February or March.
