KIEV, January 23. /TASS/. Over the past day, Ukrainian doctors registered 4,928 new coronavirus cases, which is 7.8% cases less more than the day before, the country's Minister of Health Maxim Stepanov announced on Saturday.
"4,928 new coronavirus cases were recorded in Ukraine as of January 23, 2021. In particular, 166 children and 261 health workers fell ill," Stepanov wrote on Facebook. According to him, 1,862 patients with COVID-19 were hospitalized in Ukraine over day, 116 people died, 13,138 recovered.
Ukraine announced a strict quarantine due to the coronavirus, additional restrictions were introduced for January 8 - 25. Until February 28, an emergency regime remains in effect, as well as a general quarantine.
The country has not yet begun to vaccinate the population against coronavirus. Earlier, Minister of Health said that vaccination will begin in February, the delivery of the first 910,000 doses of the vaccine is expected. Ukraine refused the use of the Russian drug Sputnik V and is negotiating with global vaccine manufacturers.
In late December 2019, Chinese officials informed the World Health Organization (WHO) about the outbreak of a previously unknown pneumonia in the city of Wuhan, in central China. Since then, cases of the novel coronavirus - named COVID-19 by the WHO - have been reported in every corner of the globe, including Russia. On March 11, 2020, the WHO declared the coronavirus outbreak a pandemic.
