MOSCOW, May 13. /TASS/. The agreements on supplies of components for Avtovaz have been reached with Asian companies, though there is a logistics issue due to the lockdown announced in China, which makes it impossible to deliver them in due time, Governor of the Samara Region Dmitry Azarov told TASS on Friday.
"Suppliers have been found, moreover, all agreements have been reached, formalized, but the lockdown occurred. The lockdown declared in a number of Chinese regions prevented the supply of components in due time, unfortunately. COVID-19 is again breaking the plans of car producers today not only in our country, but in the whole world. Unfortunately, this has become an extra negative factor affecting the activities of the company," he said.
Now when components will be supplied will depend on the epidemiological situation in Chinese regions, the governor added. "We are monitoring it now as closely as the epidemiological situation in the Russian Federation, because the activities of the largest team of employees in the Samara Region depend on it. <...> I hope very much that supplies will be resumed shortly and the enterprise will start operating smoothly," he noted.
Azarov told TASS in March that suppliers of electronic components for Avtovaz had been found, those being companies from Asian countries. Earlier, the enterprises announced another halt due to the lack of components - from May 16 to 20. The enterprise was also halted on May 11-13. Previously Avtovaz resumed the production of cars in Tolyatti and Izhevsk on a limited basis after a planned corporate vacation on April 4-24. The production was also stopped from May 4 to 6. Starting June 6, the facility will shift to a four-day work schedule for three months due to a crisis in supplies of electronic components.
