MOSCOW, October 5. /TASS/. Russia's coronavirus reproduction rate dropped to 0.67 on Wednesday, the lowest level during the pandemic, according to TASS estimates based on data from the federal anti-coronavirus crisis center.
The rate was below 1 in all of the country's top ten regions with the highest number of coronavirus cases. The coronavirus reproduction rate stood at 0.45 in the Rostov Region, at 0.48 in the Sverdlovsk Region, at 0.49 in the Perm Region, at 0.52 in the Samara Region, and at 0.56 in the Moscow Region. The rate rose to 0.6 in Moscow and to 0.85 in the Krasnoyarsk Region, and fell to 0.65 in the Nizhny Novgorod and Voronezh regions, remaining at 0.97 in St. Petersburg.
The coronavirus reproduction rate indicates the average number of people one sick person can infect. It is one of the criteria that was considered when it came to removing restrictions introduced in the spring of 2020 to prevent the infection from spreading and assessing Russian regions' preparedness for public events.
