* New Professorship for Software Engineering specializes in Blockchain Technologies in Berlin
* Dr. Peter Ruppel will join the CODE’s faculty as of today
* T-Labs and CODE jointly drive development of future technology applications
T-Labs, Deutsche Telekom’s central research and innovation unit, establishes the Group’s first professorship for Software Engineering with a specialization in Blockchain at CODE University of Applied Sciences (CODE). CODE is a private state accredited university of applied sciences in Berlin. The newly established professorship is part of the cooperation which T-Labs and CODE announced earlier this year.
The professorship’s activity starts today with the beginning of the academic year. It will bring in research results focused on exploring and developing further distributed ledger technologies, the token economy, and the decentralized web. Dr. Peter Ruppel will be the holding the position of Professor for Software Engineering. He is specialized in distributed systems, decentralized applications, and data science. Peter's aim is to further explore distributed ledger technologies as well as to co-shape CODE's vision of a curiosity-driven education for future software engineers: “I am very much looking forward to the collaboration with CODE and T-Labs, and to join this extraordinary nexus between pioneering curricula and bleeding-edge innovation projects”.

This cooperation is an additional step towards defining and driving further the “Academia-as-a Service” initiative of T-Labs, which aims to generate a stable flow of knowledge exchanges between academic partners and various departments of Deutsche Telekom. The main focus is on one side focused on constant and sustained exploration of new technologies and secondly, on acquiring and involving young talents in projects of Deutsche Telekom.
The initiative is driven by T-Labs’ Blockchain Group, established in June 2017. The Blockchain Group drives and coordinates all the blockchain initiatives carried out in Deutsche Telekom and works to research and develop solutions, dedicated both for internal Deutsche Telekom system‘s optimization and for business customers from various industries.
This partnership with CODE adds on to academic cooperations concluded over time by T-Labs with prestigious partners from Germany and internationally.
