New study reveals high levels of pollution in London Underground

  • In the study, published today in the journal Environment International, they found that concentrations of fine particles (PM2.5) which are linked to several health problems, were many times greater than in other modes of transport such as cycling, driving and taking a bus and those in subway systems around the world.
  • On average, the London Underground handles 2.8 million passenger journeys each day and the average journey is 47 minutes.
  • The study was carried out in collaboration with Transport for London and provides information for their ongoing program of improving air quality of the London Underground.
