Luxembourg top financial centre in EU – report

  • Luxembourg’s financial centre ranks first in the EU and 12th globally after jumping six places in a twice-yearly ranking, putting it ahead of cities such as Frankfurt, Boston, Dubai, Chicago and Paris.
  • New York continued to top the Global Financial Centres Index (GCFI), a measure which uses over over 100 indices from organisations such as the World Bank,  the OECD, and the Economist Intelligence Unit.
  • The GFCI looks at five key areas, namely business environment, financial sector development, infrastructure factors, human capital, reputation and general factors, each with a trove of sub-indices.
