TEHRAN, May 25. /TASS/. Russia and Iran are discussing ways to attract investments in the implementation of oil and gas projects, as well as swap supplies of oil and gas, co-chair of the intergovernmental commission of Russia and Iran, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said following a meeting of co-chairs of the commission on Wednesday.
"Energy is obviously one of the major sectors of our trade and economic cooperation. We discussed the issues related to swap supplies of gas and oil, as well as ways to attract investment in the implementation of oil and gas projects," he said.
Earlier, the Iranian side suggested that Russia carry out swap deliveries of gas through its territory similar to those running from Turkmenistan to Azerbaijan via Iran's territory.
Russian oil companies, including Rosneft, Lukoil, Gazprom Neft and Zarubezhneft, were interested in projects in Iranian territory before the US sanctions were imposed.
