TEHRAN, June 7. /TASS/. The West's attempts to take destructive actions with regards to Russia and Iran carry a threat to global energy security, Iranian Petroleum Minister Javad Owji said on Tuesday.
"Iran and Russia are major players in providing gas and oil to the world. Games with these two important countries threaten global security and the supply of energy commodities," the IRNA news agency quoted him as saying. According to the official, "Europe's dependence on energy is not something that can be easily surmounted while the game the US has begun is not in the interests of these countries."
On June 3, the Council of the European Union approved a sixth package of sanctions against Russia which includes a delayed embargo on Russian seaborne crude oil and petroleum products. The embargo on seaborne crude oil is postponed until early December and the embargo on petroleum products is delayed until February 2023. A temporary exception is provided for pipeline imports into those EU countries that due to their location strongly depend on Russian supplies and have no alternatives. Above all, this involves Hungary and Slovakia.
