TEHRAN, June 8./TASS/. Tehran is ready to help facilitate the diplomatic settlement of the conflict around Ukraine, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi said during a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday.
"Iran is ready to use its possibilities to help [find] a diplomatic solution to the military confrontation," the president's press service quoted Ebrahim Raisi as saying. The president said he "hopes for an early end to the fighting in Ukraine".
On May 26, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said that Tehran offered the Islamic Republic of Iran as host to talks between Russia and Ukraine.
Russian-Ukrainian negotiations have been underway since February 28. First, several meetings took place in Belarus. Then the negotiators continued discussions by video link. On March 29, a face-to-face round of negotiations was held in Istanbul. On April 12, Russian President Vladimir Putin told reporters that Kiev had departed from the agreements reached in Turkey, thus steering this process to a dead end. Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on April 20 that Moscow had handed over to Kiev a clearly-worded draft document on agreements and was waiting for a response.
