MOSCOW, August 13. /TASS-DEFENSE/. Russian Southern Military District engineer units will hold a special exercise to practice new engineer support techniques, including those based on the combat experience gained in Syria, the Defense Ministry's press office said.

"The servicemen are using GNT-1 and GNT-2 gabions to construct rapidly-erected fortifications, as well as GNT-5 and GNT-6 gabions that are set up mechanically," the press office said.

During mobile defense, the servicemen will use the so-called Syrian rampart technique with mounds for armored vehicles performing live-firing and counterfire maneuvers.

The combat engineers will also set up decoy command posts with the use of improvised materials, namely, soil and vegetation, to protect and mask the units and command posts.

Servicemen of Black Sea Fleet and Caspian Flotilla engineer units will use balloons and fishing nets to deceive a simulated enemy and protect naval bases from unmanned aerial vehicles.
