PATRIOT PARK /Moscow Region/, August 18. /TASS-DEFENSE/. A contract has been signed to deliver a second regiment set of the S-400 air defense missile system to Turkey, with the production of some components to be localized there, Head of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation Dmitry Shugayev told TASS on the sidelines of the Army 2022 international forum.
"A relevant contract has already been signed. Among other things, it will envisage localizing the production of some components of the [S-400 Triumf] system. The S-400 Triumf is a unique system. And I can say with certainty that in the next few years, any country is unlikely to develop a system that could rival the S-400 Triumf missile system in terms of its tactical capabilities," Shugayev said.
According to him, the contract with Turkey is currently being put into practice.
About purchase of S-400 systems
Russia and Turkey signed a contract for the delivery of S-400 systems to Ankara in 2017. Turkey became the first NATO country to buy S-400 systems. Ankara's decision provoked a sharply negative reaction from the United States and the alliance as a whole. The United States has not given up its efforts to have Turkey abandon the deal. As Turkey never gave in to this pressure, Washington excluded Ankara from its fifth-generation F-35 fighter jet program.
The S-400 (NATO reporting name: SA-21 Growler) is a Russian long- and medium-range air defense missile system. It is designed to hit air-launched weapons and reconnaissance means, including stealth aircraft, as well as other aerial targets amid intensive fire and electronic countermeasures.
The Army 2022 international military-technical forum is running on August 15-21 at the Patriot exhibition center outside Moscow. The Defense Ministry is the organizer of the forum.
