United States teachers compete for cash for their classrooms and critics liken it to Squid Game

  • It’s been likened to Squid Game: Teachers pitted against one another, frantically scooping up dollar bills to help pay for classroom supplies.
  • Organisers dropped $US5,000 ($7,047) on a mat on the centre of the ice, before 10 teachers — who were randomly selected from more than 30 applications — dropped to their hands and knees, scrambling to collect the cash in front of a live audience.
  • In a written statement, the Sioux Falls Stampede and CU Mortgage Direct — the bank that donated the money — said that, upon reflection, “we can see how it appears to be degrading”.
