MOSCOW, May 13. /TASS/. Over 25% of Russians continue using the blocked social networks, Facebook and Instagram, owned by Meta (designated an extremist organization in Russia), by way of VPNs.
"Nearly a third of respondents (30%) have reduced their engagement with these platforms due to the need to use a VPN. But 26% continue using Facebook, Instagram and other blocked social media, which is not against the law," said the bank.
The Urals and Moscow regions account for the largest portion of those continuing using the blocked platforms - 32% and 30% respectively, and the smallest share is in the Southern Federal District (15%), according to the survey.
Thirty-nine percent of those polled ditched Facebook, Instagram and other social media out of principle. Another 5% did it for fear of persecution.
The survey was conducted on May 4-11 among 1000 Russians aged from 18 to 65 in cities with a population of over 100,000 people.
