Extraordinary profits tax: Sanofi and Pfizer France refuse comment

  • Pharmaceutical companies Pfizer and Sanofi told EURACTIV France that they will not comment on French Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne’s statement that they should “participate in the collective effort” to support the 2023 health budget.
  • Rising profits of pharmaceutical companies have resulted in calls for the companies to be included in extraordinary profits tax initiatives, akin to the ‘windfall’ taxes on energy suppliers.
  • More recently, in France, the left-wing NUPES coalition presented a bill to the National Assembly on a shared initiative referendum to tax companies with a revenue of more than €750 million.
