The Bank of Russia sold 6.3 bln rubles ($85.7 mln) worth of foreign exchange on the domestic market with settlements on December 15 as part of preventive measures curbing volatility, the regulator reported on Wednesday.
As of 10:12 am, the dollar was down by 0.07% at 73.34 rubles, while the euro was trading at 89.2525 rubles (+0.02).
The MOEX index grew by 0.36% and reached 3,259.89 points, and the RTS index – by 0.64% to 1,399.42 points.
The real effective exchange rate of the Russian ruble against currencies of the main trade partners adjusted for inflation edged up by 0.4% in November 2020 compared with the previous month, and dropped by 16.8% year-to-date.
The Russian stock indices continued to decline on Tuesday.
The Fed is expected to give guidance on the path of its bond-buying program in its Wednesday statement.

The MOEX index lost 0.07% reaching 3,252.68 points, the RTS index decreased by 0.78% to 1,387.15 points on Tuesday.
The St. Petersburg-based SPB Exchange plans to launch options for foreign indices and stocks in 2021, President of RTS Nonprofit Partnership Roman Goryunov said on Monday.
