As per the Global Unicorn Index 2026 by Hurun Research Institute, China counted 381 unicorn enterprises as of the beginning of 2026, marking an increase of 38 from the prior year. The research positions the United States as the leader with 50.3% of the world’s unicorns.
While about 18 million square kilometers of Africa – an area bigger than the whole of Russia – still has suitable habitat for elephants, the actual range of African elephants has shrunk to just 17 percent of what it could be due to human pressure and the killing of elephants for ivory.
Botswana has auctioned licences to hunt a total of 70 elephants in seven districts, the first such hunting to take place since President Mokgweetsi Masisi lifted a five-year ban on big game hunting last May.
