MOSCOW, May 5 (WNM/TASS) - Some 90% COVID-19 patients in Moscow are younger than 65, the anti-coronavirus center reported, confirming 5,714 new cases in the Russian capital over the past day.
"Some 46.4% of new patients are people aged between 18 and 45, 34% are aged between 46 and 65, 7% are aged between 66 and 79, and 3.3% others are above 80. Some 9.3% among those ill are children. All patients and their close contacts are under medical supervision," the crisis center said.
To date, Moscow has confirmed a total of 80,115 coronavirus cases.
"The number of positive coronavirus tests over the past days has been on the rise, while the number of those hospitalized remains at the previous level. This trend shows that Moscow has managed to reduce the risk of the infection spread and prevent grave consequences of the virus for patients," the statement reads.
Since the start of the pandemic, more than 3.4 mln people have contracted the coronavirus in the world and over 240,000 have died. Earlier, the Russian government set up an Internet hotline to keep the public updated on the coronavirus situation.
